Take a walk around the block. Meander through the neighborhood. Or just sit on the front stoop, inhaling the scent of blossoms and fresh-cut grass, humming with birds and laughing with kids. And savor a piece of chocolate while you're at it!

Crazy Tokyo Days, Lonely Chicago Nights
Through it all, I'm definitely the lucky one here.
If you have time before before your (1hour?) trans-pacific flight from Chicago to Kansas City, you should see if you can find a Trader Joes's. Save apiece of chocolate for me! (But don't tell the girls...)
